CS0 has a collection of clubs at The British School, Rio de Janeiro. It runs in
association with the Computer Science Department. It brings together the
following student-led initiatives:
Programming Club, Friday (15:05 - 16:00). Members train for the Brazilian Informatics
Olympiad (OBI) by solving competitive programming problems each
session. The work covers algorithms, data structures, and the
problem-solving patterns the contest rewards. Past papers are worked
through together in the run-up to each round.
CanSat Club, TBA. Students research the subsystems that make up a
satellite, from power and communications to on-board sensors. They
then design and build a working model that fits inside a soft drink
can. Each build is tested with a launch and a data-recovery run.
Investment Club, Thursday (15:15 - 16:00). Members study asset
management and the strategies behind long-term investing. Sessions
cover how to read financial statements, weigh risk against return,
and follow the markets. The club also runs a simulated portfolio
that members manage together.
Artificial Intelligence Club, Tuesday (15:15 - 16:00). Members use
AI tools to write, test, and debug software more effectively. The
sessions cover practical prompting, code review with a model in the
loop, and where these tools tend to fall short. No prior experience
with AI is needed.
Autonomous Systems and Engineering Club, Wednesday (15:15 - 16:00).
Members build robotic agents that sense their surroundings and act
without direct human control. The work spans mechanical design,
electronics, and the control code that ties them together. Projects
are built in small teams from an idea through to a working prototype.
